There are 40 paintings in this series, painted in situ during four different artist-in-residence stays in Hawaii. I painted from various locations around the rim of the active volcano Kilauea, looking down into its caldera. The paintings developed sequentially, taking me deeper and deeper from the actual forms before me, into the core of the volcano, the core of the earth, the core of the cosmos, the core of my self, and the essential core of All. The journey to one's inner self is ultimately a journey into the essential core of Being, the archetypal path of the artist and seeker. It is the journey Home.
